Teaching video has constraints most tools ignore. School devices are locked down, budgets do not stretch to per-seat subscriptions, and uploading a video containing pupils to a third-party service is often simply not allowed.
Zella sidesteps all three. It runs entirely on the device, so there is no upload and no account to provision. It is a one-time purchase rather than a renewal that has to be defended every year. And captions, which are an accessibility requirement rather than a nice touch, are generated on-device and exportable as SRT or VTT.
For the teaching itself, the useful parts are the ordinary ones: record the screen and your voice, zoom on what you are pointing at, and cut the pauses so a fifteen-minute explanation is the ten minutes that mattered.

THE HONEST ANSWERS
Our IT will not approve a cloud tool.
There is no cloud to approve. Zella has no account system, no upload path and no server component. It processes video on the device and writes a file, which is generally a much shorter conversation with IT than a hosted editor.
We cannot upload footage containing pupils.
You will not have to. Recording, transcription, background removal and export all run locally, so pupil footage never leaves the device. Blur callouts can also censor faces or names still visible on screen.
Is there education pricing?
Not today, and it is better to say so than imply otherwise. What exists is a genuinely usable free tier - the whole editor, all the AI, no watermark - and a $89 one-time Pro rather than an annual renewal.

Does Zella work without an internet connection?
Yes. Recording, captions, background removal, voice cleanup and export all run on the device. Only Auto B-Roll needs the internet, and it sends a keyword rather than your video.
Can I generate accessible captions and a transcript?
Yes. Transcription runs on-device and exports as SRT, VTT or CSV, as well as captions burned into the video.
Is there an education discount?

Can I blur a pupil face or a name on screen?
Yes. Blur callouts censor a region and bake into the exported file.
