Make your voice sound better in a video: clear, warm and broadcast-level
Most narration is recorded on a laptop or phone mic in an untreated room. Polish Voice is the one-click step that makes it sound like it was recorded on purpose.
On iPhone it starts by lifting your voice out of the room with Apple's Voice Isolation engine, before any shaping happens. The character on top is your choice of tone.

Quick answer
To make your voice sound better in a video, run Zella's Polish Voice on Mac or iPhone: it cleans and levels your narration on your device with rumble control, de-essing, compression and loudness normalisation to about -14 LUFS, the level social platforms and YouTube expect. On iPhone you pick one of 5 voice tones in Cleanup → Voice tone: Natural, Warm, Bright, Podcast or Cinematic. It is free on every tier.
How to do it in Zella
-
Step 1: Mac: Auto Tools → Polish Voice
In the editor sidebar, click Polish Voice and Apply, then choose the loudness target, for example YouTube -14.
-
Step 2: iPhone: pick a tone
Open Cleanup → Voice tone and choose Natural, Warm, Bright, Podcast (the default) or Cinematic, then run Polish Voice.
-
Step 3: Remove noise first on a noisy take
If there is a fan or a hum behind you, run Remove Noise as well. The two stack.
-
Step 4: Compare tones
On iPhone, switch tone any time and the polish re-renders straight away with the new voicing.
-
Step 5: Let the music sit under it
Add a music bed with Auto-Duck so the music dips whenever you speak and your polished voice stays on top.
Why do it this way
Five voicings, one foundation
Natural is a light touch, Warm adds low end, Bright adds air, Podcast is the studio default and Cinematic is the biggest and deepest.
Platform-ready loudness
About -14 LUFS is the target social platforms and YouTube expect, so your video is not quieter than the next one in the feed.
Built in, not a plugin
No separate audio app, no subscription, nothing uploaded, and Auto-Polish includes it in its one-click pass.
What you need
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple Silicon or Intel), or iPhone on iOS 18 or later
- Free on every tier: no watermark, exports up to 2 minutes at 1080p
Questions
What does Polish Voice actually do?
It runs a high-pass filter for rumble, a de-esser for harsh s sounds, a compressor to even out loud and quiet parts, and loudness normalisation to about -14 LUFS.
Can I choose how my voice sounds?
Yes. Zella has 5 voice tones: Natural, Warm, Bright, Podcast and Cinematic. On iPhone they are in Cleanup → Voice tone, and switching re-renders immediately.
Is it the same as a voice changer?
No. Polish Voice makes your own voice sound better. The 16 voice changers turn it into something else, such as Robot or Chipmunk.
Does it need the internet?
No. Voice processing runs on your Mac or iPhone, with nothing uploaded.
Does Polish Voice remove background noise too?
It shapes the voice; Remove Noise takes away the fan, hum or hiss behind it. On a noisy take, run Remove Noise first and Polish Voice after, or let Auto-Polish do both in one pass.
